Enikő Mihalik and the pin-up style

A real curiosity found these days!!! The world wide well known Bergdorf Goodman Resort came up with a new catalog to show their actual swimsuits, and they represent this with a Hungarian model: Enikő Mihalik in PIN-UP STYLE!!

What should you know about the Bergdorf Goodman?
First of all this is a world wide and beloved shop, it had started in the 1800′s and standing nowadays also in New York. Thanks to to modern techincs, they have webpage and webshop also. So quality, so exclusive….and you may draw a conclusion of this attributes. :)

Who is Enikő Mihalik( if you haven’t heard from her yet :) )?
She is a Hungarian girl from Békéscsaba, who started modeling in 2002 and to get the more and more success in the beauty industry. She modeled – among others – for Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Byblos, Balmain….and so on.
You can read more infos and see more pictures of Enikő here:

Retro effects, and pin-up style are dominant in Bergdorf Goodman’s actual swimsuit fashion and this is very good because these cultures get more emphasis with this mediums.
The second pozitive thing that the model is a Hungarian topmodel: one of today’s well known and beloved topmodel, Enikő Mihalik. We’re proud of Enikő, because basically we’re Hungarians. :)

So here is a Hungarian topmodel, a world wide famous company, and the pinup style…for me it’s a pleasure to see the big fashion brands bring out the pinup in an international or a bit more popular scene!

We have to admit this is also a big success, next to Enikő’s other success, because being a model, mainly a topmodel it’s really hard work in the mind, in the body, not an easy way for someone to express herself and absolutely pozitive thing that the big fashion brands, other brands, exclusive or luxurious fashion companies, fashion moguls go back and bring up to the fashion the extinct or vintage eras.
Ideally the results are amazing, and the transcriptions – because they only have – show a new creation but also shows the roots and the origins of it.
To my sorrow, I when I see pin-up style they come with up, it’s not always being showed in good ways.

Thanks to God this is the counterexample, because – of course, it’s evident! – the photos are very professional, the make-ups, the hairs, clothes and accessories are in good conformity and the poses are also good and shows the style.

Important to mention that these photos aren’t pure classic, authentic pin-up photos but it’s a very good way to show pinup in another point of view, to put into this ages with keeping the function to show today’s cultures with the tools of today’s ideal woman what describes well the woman nowadays.

There’s nothing wrong with it while we can recognize the main motifs of pin-up ( what are not only a “put some flowers on your hair, get a corset and you’re now pinup” thing!), things what makes pin-up a pin-up.
If these main rules can be hold, pin-up becomes a new thing, in a new, fresh point of view, a real transcription of something classical.

I don’t want to tell you negative examples but one thing we can lay down: pin-up is not only the red lipstick-corset-victory rolls-and that’s all thing

Back to Enikő’s photos:
We can moderately say these photos are the exclusive, today’s luxurious things on focus way of pin-up, this can be a viewpoint, yes!
Here you can see, Enikő is a professional model, who knows what to do, and have the empathy in all situations or professionally coordinated what to do. This is very important.
If you see a picture, attitude is eye-catching: the model loves the shoot, or in this case: pinup shoot, or it’s only another work to do…

First and last: in my opinion it’s a very good and beautiful serie with beautiful compositions with pretty accents and a very good example of today’s cultural options. Exclusive, retro in modern, clear and another point of view of pinup. A really good example of today’s pin-up culture is how colorful!
The target audience love it. We also love it and the only question is: where are the critical points and the last limits where something pin-up or not pin-up? Are there critical points at all? What is pinup: when you stay classical or not but keep the main characteristics, or pinup is a totally subjective thing?

Well, maybe time will answer this question, maybe someday. :)

Finally one of my loved citation:

“If you want to see and know something in it’s complete reality and depth, you have to look that in front of the thing, and sideways, from beneath, from above and as much as sight you can, to get to know it.”
