Pin-up Lifestyle- a place for pin-up enthusiasts
Hi Everybody!
We’d like to present a great idea and a great place where you can also find every aspects of the pin-up culture. We’re happy to make this interview and always good to see when people create something good and when enthusiasts meet a place where they can simply find each other, speak, share works and dreams, it’s the best in the world!
This is a communal page for pinups and pinup enthusiasts, it’s really complex and everybody can find each other. It’s the Pin-up Lifestyle!

RP: Hi guys! Tell us a little about yourself!
Desiree from PL: I grew up in Kentucky with a small (and awesome!) family. I’m happy to be where I am, but growing up in a small town in the Southern United States taught me many important lessons I don’t think I could have learned anywhere else. I’m totally proud of where I’ve come from! Daddy Cool (DC) and I currently live in California where he was born, and we just love it here!
Overall, I am pretty laid-back and easy-going but when it comes to PL, I am all business. Maintaining the level of professionalism and community on there is super important to me and I do not mess around with that! I’m a little shy, but I’m taking advantage of the opportunity to meet all these wonderful people from PL! The amount of opportunities to work with top industry talent we’ve gained is simply amazing (Hi Bernie Dexter!). They don’t know it, but they’re really helping me break out of that. Thanks guys!!
And if you can’t tell, I’m also really terrible about talking about myself. =)
RP: What brought the idea to make a communal page like this?
Desiree from PL: The idea originally started with DC. It’s a funny story actually. At his previous job, he and one of his co-workers would have “photo battles”. One of them would send a photo and the other had to “one-up” it. DC was into cars and his co-worker was into bikes, so pinup photography was a natural choice for their ammunition. Because there was no central place to find that type of photography, they’d spend hours searching for replies for each other. He held onto to the idea of creating this database of beautiful images for years.
Then, while I was looking for work here in the San Francisco bay area, I got so bored I thought I was going to go crazy! So, being the constant thinker that he is, DC suggested that I think about creating this website he’d been thinking of for the pinup lifestyle. I’ve always appreciated the beauty and style of classic pinups, so I immediately got to it! I started doing a little research and quickly realized that there just wasn’t anything out there for people in this lifestyle. And that was that. I made up my mind and was ready to move at top speed. We started brainstorming ideas for what PL could be and I chose the name, registered the domain, and started working on a logo while DC was at work. Over the next week, with some feedback from DC, Pinup Lifestyle (PL) was born! We recently celebrated our first birthday with a great night out accompanied by many of our members.
RP: Why a communal page?
Desiree from PL:Because there was no other type of “gathering place” for people in the lifestyle, it was a no-brainer that PL would have to be an online community. People needed a place to share their love of pinup, network with people of the same interests, discover small and huge vendors & designers, and just make friends. We’ve heard so many times from small-town girls that they thought they were just weird. Then they came to PL and found so many people that were like them. It’s such an amazing feeling to know that we’re helping people see that. I think we’re going to start compiling success stories soon…
RP: What do you think about pinup as a style for women and as a lifestyle?
Desiree from PL: I think Pinup in any variation – classic or modern – is the most beautiful style the world has ever seen. It’s classy, sexy, sophisticated; everything a woman should be. It’s been so awesome to see the entire scope of the pinup lifestyle, from girls like me into the modern, edgy side of pinup to a guy we met here in San Francisco who truly lives in a vintage world with absolutely no modern technology. It’s pretty amazing; we like to call it Vintage “Inspired”.
RP: Who has join to you (as partners, friends) when they got to know your page?
Desiree from PL: We’ve developed so many partnerships and personal friendships through PL. We can honestly say now that we have friends all over the world! We’ve worked on several projects with well-known models, artists, and companies including Bernie Dexter, Dayna Delux, Roxi Dlite, Big Sandy, Olivia, Whirlingturban, Heartbreaker Fashion, and Pinup Girl Clothing. We’re looking forward to building on those relationships and forming new ones in our next year!
RP: What do you do in life next to Pinup Lifestyle?
Desiree from PL: PL has tons of momentum left and many vertical markets to pursue, from fetish to steampunk. Beyond PL, it’s hard to say right now. We’ve had so many different ideas, from publishing a magazine to opening a brick-and-mortar business. We have also considered launching a sister networks for other niche communities. It’s been such a great feeling to bring people together; we’d love to just keep doing that any way we can.
RP: Thank you for this interview guys, always great to hear when a good idea become real! It’s really a complex page with everybody who are into pinup, doing pinup or enthusiast of pinup. We’re still watching you, as I’m a proud member also.
